Having lost various pets over the years, I recently lost my beloved cat of 17 years. This subconsciously forced me to reflect on the pets of past and how I had chosen to remember them. How did I deal with the remains? Well as a kid the family performed the usual ceremonies.
A little hole is dug for “fins” the gold fish (I found out later in life that Dad had actually just flushed the fish and we buried an empty box!!), or the next town or house the same family ceremony and little hole under the beautiful tree for “Hamon” the hamster and so it went with the “short life pets”. Then when Katty-Kat-Kat passed things changed. I could not just let the vet “deal” with her and I did not think it appropriate to just dig a hole and do the “usual”. So I went in search of a solution.
Remembering a pet can be done in a variety of special and touching manners. Depending on the type of pet, where the family resides and what the personal preferences of the owners are dictates the way in which the pet is remembered. There are a number of different options available for paying your respects to pets. Selecting the appropriate method that not only will bring some comfort but also help with the grieving process.
Pet Cremation Urns and Jewellery
Pet cremation urns are a dignified option when it comes to having a resting place for a family pet. Many families choose the option of cremation for their pet and a local veterinarian should have all the necessary information on pet cremation. Most veterinarian offices carry a wide assortment of brochures or information on obtaining pet memorial urns. Shopping online for a Pet Urn may not only offer more variety but also a less expensive price than purchasing through a vet. Pet Cemetery Burial

Pet Cremation Jewellery
Another unique expression of remembering and honouring a pet is to select pet cremation jewellery. These unique keepsakes feature a small jewellery pendant that has been hollowed out and will hold a remembrance or memory of a pet. Typical tributes would be cremated ashes, some ground from where a pet was buried or some fur. Pet jewellery urns allow entire families to have a part of their pet that they can carry with them. Key chains, rings, pendants and bracelets are just a few of the keepsake ideas available.
Alternative Methods to Remembering Your Pet
There are other ideas when it comes to remembering a pet that has died. Garden markers made of lightweight materials or concrete can be engraved with a pet’s name, date of birth or death. Ceramic pet memorials for inside a home or out in the yard provide an interesting way to remember your family pet. Pet ornaments can be hand-painted with an image of a pet and hung year round as a special reminder. Pet cremation paintings come in a wide assortment of colours and can be displayed. A small amount of remains are mixed in with the paints and applied to a canvas with an earth friendly compound
